It’s late.
I’m talking to myself. “Why on earth are you doing this?”, I ask. “Can you give me one good reason?”
My answer to me?
Some of my friends are frustrated. They’re concerned that “trends” may do them in. They’d like a hand – a guide who knows the territory.
I can help with that.
June 26, 2015 – the day the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-gender marriage. No matter which side of the issue you favored, one thing is clear.
The times, they are a-changin’.
Music changes. Nothing new there. Yet it feels like somebody broke the brakes! The speed of change keeps getting faster and we can’t keep up.
Cope and Quit (and know why)
When we’re swamped, we’ve got two choices: cope and quit.
That’s no typo. It’s not “either/or”. It’s BOTH.
COPE – Take a hard look at what frustrates you, stuff that keeps you up at night. Where do you feel most out of step? What makes you angry about all this change? Does being tech-inept bug you? So … what? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
(Caution: Before you take a step, know why.)
Work with me or with someone else and get help in making those rough places plain.
QUIT – If you can fix a problem, fix it. If you can’t, no amount of worry will. Worry isn’t a symptom of shallow faith. It’s a sign that something really matters to you and you’re unsure about an outcome. Still, know that worry will suck your soul dry.
So quit it! Admit it’s there, pat it on the head for a bit, but for heaven’s sake, don’t feed it. It’ll never leave!
No matter what you do – know WHY you’re doing it .
Until you know “why”, you’re chasing your tail.
If we’re not sure about why, how do we find out??
Pray more. Talk less.
And move on to “How”
Over the years, I’ve found tools to help handle some of the stress caused by life’s junk. I’ve gathered those tools and others in a cyber shed I call – Making Music Work. Some tools are practical, hands-on stuff like how to quickly create music image files to embed in a school program and/or church bulletin. Some tools are internal, like how to decide whether to stay or go … in a church or a school or a relationship.
Take a second to sign up for the newsletter. If you find, after a month or so, that it’s not for you, hit “unsubscribe”.
Voilà! – a quick and painless exit. No hard feelings. My newsletter won’t be visible on the site or the web. It’s free, it’s yours, and comes to your inbox every week. It’s the best part of how I help you.
Back to Why
You’re the hero here. You’ve dedicated your life to the solid ground of making high quality music. Now, like it or not, that ground is shifting. Even heroes need a hand.
If your “Why” is true, it’ll lead you to a way. That path leads you to “How”.
